FREE BOOK GIVEAWAY! Flirting with Faith by Joan Ball

Back in October I had the great privilege of meeting one of the most exciting new voice’s on faith and culture, Joan Ball. In her new book, Flirting with Faith, Joan tells her story of moving from all-out atheism to a tried and true faith in Jesus. Along the way she loses her successful career, her beautiful home, and her ideas about how the world works. But what she discovers is even greater than what she loses.

With a lot of depth, humor, and sass (which is exactly what you get with Joan in person), Flirting with Faith will certainly inspire you and remind you that there is indeed a God who doesn’t fit in the boxes you and I like to try to cram him in.

Best of all, Joan has allowed me to give away a FREE copy of her new book to let you get a taste. All you have to do is be the first to comment below and I’ll send you an email to get your address. Joan will then stick a copy in the mail just for you!

I’m very proud of what Joan has accomplished, not only in the release of her new book, but also in the way she chooses to live and move in this world. She has since become a friend and a consistent encouragement to me. I strongly believe this woman is going to shake things up in all the best ways. Whether or not you get a FREE book, don’t hesitate to go pick up her book right away.

Learn more about Joan at the Simon&Schuster website or, even better, go visit her blog on to get a taste of her sassy brilliance.

  1. Unbelievable!

  2. Atheism is such a trap that only the Holy Spirit can free us. I would love to read this story.

  3. Dangit, Bob…

    • Yes, Bob must be a commenting ninja. As compensation for your loss, I will bring a main dish to home group in a couple of weeks;-)

  4. I keep running across Joan’s story in thw blogosphere. It’s fascinating to me, mostly because it seems to be such a God thing: “Hey, see that atheist there? I’m gonna woo her. Crazy, right?”

  5. Thanks Jesse: Let’s keep it interesting and give a second copy to the LAST commenter!

  6. Oh, now you guys are just teasing me… Now I’m going to have to come back every 5 min and comment with something cleaver so I can try and win. 😉

Btw, Joan thank you for sharing your story with all of us. Whether I “win” or not, it is great to see your book and your story getting so much attention. It’s really a testament to the wild, boundless God who loves us.

  7. I would love to read Joan Ball’s new book as I am learning that the answers I seek are in the stories that are unfolding.

  8. My kind of book! Somehow, I don’t think I’ll be the “last” commenter…

  9. So when is the cutoff time for “LAST” commenter?! 🙂 I’m STILL trying to get a copy of this book…

  10. Alright, so I just have to comment at 11:59:59 and I score! Whoot Whoot! 😉

  11. Hmm…are you talkin’ PST Jesse?

  12. Good question, Julie – maybe we should make it EST to keep it fair – don’t want my east coast friends staying up too late.

11:59PM EST – who can get closest???

  13. Ok, I gotta try! 🙂

  14. Here’s my shot!

  15. Did I miss it?

(ps, if I win, give it to Julie)

  16. According to my WordPress timer, Julie is the winner at 11:58PM EST! Sorry, Andy and Aaron. Julie – email me your mailing address (

Thank you all for making this a very fun giveaway!

  17. Hey Julie and Bob! Thanks for your interest in the book. I have Bob’s address and will get Julie’s from Jesse. Can’t wait to connect with you after you’ve had a chance to read it.

I will be doing some traveling in the next several months. If you want to keep up with what’s happening and hear about where I’ll be speaking connect on Facebook (yes, Jesse, Facebook) here:

Thanks everyone, and especially you Jesse for sharing…

  18. Wow! I’m stoked, and very appreciative to you Jesse and Joan! and you too Aaron (now I’d loan you my winning copy but it sounds like you already own one, right?!)…GRACIAS and may our great God of love trip all of you out in wonderful, mysterious, jaw-dropping ways! Rock on! 🙂

  19. I find it hard to believe that someone can go from a all-out atheism to a tried and true faith in Jesus – Most of really took some digging deep with yourself to find a new leases on life.

Well Hope it works well for you.
I have had many tell me that life in their household started being much easier once the second one becomes a believer.

    Thanks for sharing

    • if God can change Pharaoh’s heart… Joan’s story is legit and has been a great reminder to me of just how big God is. Thanks for your comment, Michael.
